When a company is created, it's given a business type (retail, restaurant, dental clinic, and more), which decides what demo data and default "Business Admin" permissions it starts with — a dental clinic gets dental-specific starter permissions, a restaurant gets ones suited to dine-in service, and so on. This is a one-time decision made at setup.
Independently, every branch can also be given its own business type from the Branches screen — a company that's mainly retail could still open one branch that's a small clinic. A branch's own type is stored and used to power branch-specific features, but it's set separately from the company's own type and isn't required to match it.
