The checkout screen is built to keep working even when a branch loses its internet connection entirely. It checks real connectivity in the background every few seconds — not just the browser's own online/offline flag, which can be misleading on a flaky connection — and while offline, it keeps selling from a locally cached copy of products, categories, customers, and other reference data saved on the device. Opening a shift, ringing up a sale, and closing a shift are all queued locally, in the exact order they happened, rather than lost.
The moment connectivity returns, the queue replays automatically in that same order, so a shift is always opened before a sale against it. Every queued action carries a unique client-generated reference, so a retried request can never accidentally create a duplicate sale or double-open a shift. A genuine error — as opposed to a dropped connection — is never retried silently; it's left in a dedicated review screen for a person to resolve. A configurable maximum number of offline hours flags when a branch has been disconnected too long.
