When a patient needs to see a specialist outside the clinic, a Referral records who they were referred to, why, and its current status (sent or completed). Unlike a signed consent form, a referral is purely operational tracking, not a legal record — so it can be freely edited or deleted once it's no longer needed, keeping the list focused on what's actually still open.
